About Me

My name is Sharon Carey, and gardening has been fascinating me since owning my own home in California, where I'm from. All I had back then was a large hill of grass that just died because of watering restrictions in California. I designed a multi-tiered garden to replace that hill of grass, choosing mostly drought-tolerant plants. The garden is still thriving, even though I moved out of California in 2019 (I drive by it every time I visit family in CA).

Moving to Kansas was a challenge because the garden zones were vastly different and I knew nearly NONE of the plants and shrubs that grew here. When we bought our house in Lawrence in 2020, I took on the challenge of changing out some of the existing landscaping to make the home have more curb appeal, structure and color. Slowly, over the past 5 years, the garden has become a flourishing magnet for pollinators and onlookers out on walks. It is an ever-evolving landscape, as we have done significant construction at our house too.

I wish I had had someone to walk alongside me when I was trying to figure out everything I could about Kansas plants. It would have saved me a huge amount of time, but what I have gleaned from that hard work is something I would love to share with my clients, hopefully helping you garden your own yard with ease and simplicity. In 2024, I took the K-State Douglas County Extension Office Master Gardener Course and became a Master Gardener! I am excited to implement all my knowledge and skills into helping people get a better grasp on gardening and be empowered to do it themselves!
